Dr. Colin Harris
Orthopedic Spine Surgeon
Dr. Colin Harris is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery. He has 10 years of practice experience in both academic and private settings. He was previously Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School in Newark at one of the state’s busiest level 1 trauma centers, and a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Neurosurgery at SUNY-Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He has been named a Top Doctor in New Jersey by his peers in 2019 and 2020 and is well trained in minimally invasive surgical procedures including robotic spine surgery and motion-sparing techniques, using these whenever possible to help his patients recover quickly and return to a better quality of life. He is often able to recommend a less invasive option for patients who have been told they require a more extensive traditional open surgery.
He has performed many successful surgeries for scoliosis, kyphosis, and revision procedures following previous spine surgery. He prides himself on taking the time to carefully evaluate each patient’s history and imaging studies to identify the source of their pain and recommends initial non-surgical treatment for most patients if this is an option. He works closely with physical therapists, pain management physicians and physiatrists to deliver a high quality of care from minor to the most serious spinal conditions.
Dr. Harris is a graduate of Columbia University, New York Medical College and the orthopedic residency program at Rutgers – UMDNJ, and completed additional spine fellowship training at Rush University in Chicago, IL, one of the top fellowship programs in the country. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the North American Spine Society, and the Society for Lateral Access Surgery. He is actively teaching spine surgery to residents and medical students. Dr. Harris has published multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on the topic of spine surgery. He is proud to be a New Jersey resident and enjoys running, hiking, skiing, and spending time with his wife and two young children in his free time.
